W Robertsori, son of Mr. Donald Robertson, Scoretary of the Post and Telegraph , Department, and the first Rhodes scholar to go from Wellington, is to take np the position of lecturer on chemistry to the Rangoon branch of the Calcutta University on October 1. M'Gowan, who is retiring owing to ill-health from the position of Otago manager,of the Goi eminent Life Insurance Department, m a brother of tho late Mr John M'Gowan, Commissioner of Taxes Ho joined the Department in 1878, and was appointed chief clerk m tho head office in 1886, and Otago manager in 1890.
