MONTHLY MEETINC, Tho monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was hold yesterday, there boing present: The chairman (Mr. Robort Lee), nnd Messrs. A. H. Vile, John Kobboll, Wm, Allan, J. G. W. Aitkcn,' A. W. Hogg, U.P., W.-C. Buchanan, M.P., and Wl H. Field, M.P. . . . : THE FINANCES. //, -'; -/ Tho monthly statement of finances'showed that tho debit balance on July 27 was £2818 lis. Bd., ns against £2405 7s. 3d. for tho previous month. Tho contract 1 liabilities '(including sites), amounted to £3676 17s. 9d. Tho pay-sheet, amounting to £8277 Gs.' 3d., was adopted, Tho heaviest debit was in tho buildings account, which showed a deficiency of £4822 18s." 4d. The statement was adopted.

Tho first instalment of £107, on account of tho frco school books grant, had, the Education Department intimated, been paid to tho Board's credit. Tho Education popartment also intimated that a grant in respect of rent for temporary accommodation at Muritai would be provided. ',"■' ,otak| Gorge School.—ln reply to tho board's application for ah additional grant of £85 for tho erection of a school at Otaki Gorge, the Department pointed out, in ,a letter, that the board's'first proposal for a grant of £50 for a vehicle, for tho;cohveyance of scholars, was extended to £140 on the supposition that the latter amount , would provide for a school. As this did not appear to be .tho case, it would appear desirable, thought • tho.
