The preliminary bout-.of the. six three-minutes' rounds for. a £10 purso ■ then took place between ■ Murphy' (Hastings) 'and Marks (Gisborne). The first round,, resulted in favour of Murphy, Marks .coming: down on his knees twice. In' the' second' , round Murphy again had-. Marks down for six seconds and then ,for nino- seconds,..'thus], terminating... the. .contest. Crawford (Gisboriie).. and, M'Lisky, (Hastings) then met. , in four' twbVminute ■'rounds for. a trophy. This was a '.very even contest,, and the verdict- went to;-Crawford on 'points'.- ■■-..: 'The big :event.'lof the.-evening /then "took place. The boxing tourney at the Town Hall takes place this evening.;. The; "star"'item, is a. fif-teen-round contest . between middle-weights Leckie, of Wellington, and Clarke, of England, both of whom are , reported to be in fine fettle. Opinion seems to bo divided as to which will emerge,the winner. In addition to this eyeni there will be three preliminary, contests, svhicli should .prove exceptionally, interesting. ' '
