.A correspondent; writes,- regarding Petone Esplanade, as follows:—-In your issue of July 26, it is. stated that' subscriptions are being asked for by the committee of the Petone Recreation'. Preservation Society. This.is- an error. The committee are asking for signa,turea, to a petition., to secure, the present beach aa a recreation '/reserve, and prevent its being reclaimed, and- destroyed.. - ■..■-. The Mayor of Levin (Mr. Gardener), the chairman of the Horowhenua County Council (Mr; M'Leavoy), and' Jlf. Field, M.P., at once waited on the- Hon. J. A." Millar (Minister- for. Labour) with a request that the unemployed married men ■, at Levin should be given a-.chance in connection with the • work; Mr., Millar ■ promised to refer the matter to his colleague, Mr. Mackenzie.
