Deceased was emplbyed carting shingle, and in passing through a gateway, jumped off the : cart to open the gate. Ho i was caught by, ouo of the; wheels, and crushed to death' between the wheel and the - gatepost. . .An . inquest was held : to-day before Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., and, after evidence had been -heard, a verdict of accidental death ■ was ■ returned.-- Deceased was a native oi .•\Vang-anui. - '•' . ~ ; ■ At the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, ; 5.M.,, B. .Gordoa :*■ was charged with the.theft of 9s. 3d., also the theft of a bicycle. Accused pleaded guilty, and elected to bo dealt with summarily. Ho was sentenced to three months.for the. theft of the bicycle, and was convicted and disr.
