At 1.20 a.m. yesterday a fire broko/out in au eight-roomed, house at Trent, Street; Island Bay, owned by Mr.. Hamilton Gilmer,/'-and occupied by Mr. Robert Jamieson. The house was apparently sale .'at 8 p.m., when the family retired, but, soon . after - one o'clbck, Mr. Jaraieson' was awakened by hearing his child oonghing, and found that the houso was full of smoke. The family had to make their escape through the window, taking with them nothing but their clothes. The, fire brigade arrived *on the soene, but the ilatncs had snoh a hold that nothing could be done. Tho contents, of the house wero insured. for. .£l5O in the oifioe, but the insurance on the building is not known.
