Cable and Co., is at'present third engineer of the Inveran, which vessel is now on a journey to Vladivostok, laden with railway iron from London for tho Russian Man'churian railway. In a letter to his parents at' Ekotahuna, Mr. Seymour mentions that while on the voyage through the Canal tho Inveran touched ground on three occa- , Bions, the last time for an hour.' Advantage was taken of the occasion by Mr., Young, an artist from Sydney and the fnend of all present, to present Mr Miller, with a" small oil painting .of one aspect of the Throe Kings group, off tho North Cape. The members of No. 1. company leave for Sydney by the Manuka to-day Mr.-H, Geo (a member of the firm of "Wests"), and Mr. Millor return to Sydney on Friday next. THE NAVY LEAO.UE, . ' -1 —' ♦— Always when one of his Majesty's ships visits the' port of Wellington, the local branch of the Navy, League is to the fore and doing, and to these movements tho Navy itself Teadilv responds, The present visit of HM S. Encounter furnishes no exception for, to-day, echool members of tho League attending the Te Aro, Mitehelltown, Brooklyn, and Thorndon schools are to visit the oiuiser by invitation of Captain Colurab. The visit takes place at 2 p.m., and Mr. C. W. Palmer (secretary of the-Wellington branoh) will accompany tho party. Also in connection with the branoh the Mountebank Dramatic Club has intimated that it is "prepared to give a throe nights' season 1 at the Opera House in did of the funds of tho league. This generous offer has been ac oeptcd, but the hon. secretary has suggested that'a fair portion of tho net proceeds of tho performance should po towards the work of extending the Victoria College buildings. It is hoped'that, with the promised Government subsidy, this wonld be the means of augmenting the funds available for the em-' ployment of people of the'building trade, that trade appearing to be the ono suffering roost from tho present dearth of cmplovment. The piece to be staged will be "Jane," an amusing three-act comedy, A strong cast Ims bVen arranged, and the piec» is now in active Tehcarsal. The past successes aohicvcd by tho "Mountebanks" gives even promise of a good season,' and it is fully anticipated that the coming performance of "Jane' will excel any of their pievious production* The theatre has been engaged for August 12, 13 niltl li \t least one-third of the net proceeds will be paid over to tho fund mentioned above.
