BURGLARY AT PAHIATUA.

Lata last night, or at an early hour this morning, the Borough Council Chambers were burglariously entered, the strong-room broken open, and between £4 and £5 in notes and silver taken.; Mr. J. C' Miliar, the borough clerk, left the- offices about a quarter to six last night,' when everything was apparently secure, but, on the charwoman/ coming down to light the fires and clean out this morning, the back door was found unfastened, and, on entering/she found the strong-room.open, and several disarranged articles about the floor. The police were immediately informed, and, on the arrival of the Town-Clerk, an examination, of the premises was; made,;when it was'found that tie padlock which secures the strongroom had_ fccen wrenched off and carried away. •' Various cashboxeo, and several drawers.had been overhauled; and-their contents .disarranged. Tho box containing the borough sear was also broken open, but, so far as could be ascertained, the burglar or burglars had only taken the. amount mentioned, all cheques being left.
