MARATHON RACE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - Invercargill, Jnly 14. The Southland Marathon race arranged by the Union Harriers was held this afternoon. The course, from Eiverton to Invercargill by road>-covered a distance, of 26 miles 385. yards. Runners • from as far north as Gisborne nnd Taranaki entered, bvlt only one outsider, viz., A. Frew, of Dunedin, started, and he did not finish owing to a blistered foot. There were 13 starters and 7 finished. The road, owing partially to thawed frost, was heavy. The Invercargill men had it all their own way, and the four placed men were all members of'the Union Harriers' Club; Frew ran with the leaders till his foot blistered. Afterwards the winner, D. Stewart, had tho race at his mercy, and finished fresh, in 3'hoijxs 22J minutes. E. A. Allan finished second, li minutes later, and J. Alswe'ilor third, 19 minutest later, H. A. Driscoll being 7 minutes behind him. J. A. Mitchell, under 16 years, ran last from 5 miles from the stnrt, and finished sixth unattended;
