BY-ELECTION.
THE MID-DERBYSHIRE CAMPAIGN. ' (By Tolograph.-I'roaß AeßoctaUon.-OopyrlEht.) i London, July 12. For tho Mid-Derbyshiro seat, vacant by tho death of Sir J. 'A. Jncoby, tho Liberals have decided to support Mr. Hancock, tho Labour-Socialist candidate. Mr. Samuel Crosswcll, who was defeated at the last general election, will again stand in the Unionist interest. [Two Derbyshire seats, Mid and High Peak, will shortly have by-clectionß.- The death of Sir J. A. Jacoby'(Liberal) leaves tho Liberal interest 1 in Mid Derbyshire—which had been a Jacoby possession for many years—in the hands of, a Labour-Socialist candidate. ■ Mr. Samuel Cresswell, tho Unionist candidate, "was defeated inloo6 by the late Sir J. A. Jacoby by tho very solid-margin of 3590 (7065—3175). In the High Peak division, which numbers about '12,000 electors, the Unionis have a 1008 majority of 788 to wipe off; in this , constituency the by-election is; caused by the appointment of tho Liberal member, Mr. Partington, to tho Ministry. Another new Liberal Minister, Mr. J. \V, Qul. land, will go before his electors at, Dumfries Burghs; there are about 3880 of them, and his majority in 1906 was, (333.] ' ■' ,•.■ .
