SKATING KINK. Preparations aTe in full swing for the black-and-white carnival to be held at the bkatnig Rink to-morrow evening. The programmes lor tho carnival includes a number of interesting items, among them the final heat of tho skating championship, a waltzing competition, ana fancy skating. At present the sessions av the rink are well patronised by skaters anxious to be in good form for the carnival. . CONCERT AT THE SAILORS' REST. ' A well-atfended concert was given at the Sailors' Rest last Eight undef the auspices of the Wellington Catholic Seamen's Conference An excellent programme was submitted, and Was greatlj appreciated by the seamen from the various vessels in port A special feature of the programme was tho rendering of several musical items by the Foo Foo Band from the ■; s Waianui, under the conductorehip of Bandmaster Martin Another capital item was the balancing and ncrobatie feats and sinking of tho "All-Star Vaudeville" Company A sum of 10s 2d was collected in aid of the unemployed fund as a result ot the efforts of the Coozff Bros -Songs were given by Misses Greville, A. Sullivan, Wilson, A Frith, JL Frith, and 1 Bowen, and Messrs Conwtiy. Winton, Raines, and Hmtz Master J M Carthy and Mr. Jl'Kay contributed recitations, Misses C. Hickejr and Rfloney an Irish jiff, Mr. D. Cole a violin solo,' and Messrs Cooze Bros and Black a speciality'"tarn" The accompaniments were played by Mrs Cole, and Mr Jacobs contributed a piano solo. BOYS' INSTITUTE. The Hon. 'T. Mackenzie, F K G S., Minister for Agriculture, will give a lecture in the Town Hall this evening on "New ZealandOur Own Land, Brightest and Best in aid of the Boys' Institute and kmematoeraph pictures will be shown, and tho illustrations will be described, I the selections including tho Southern Alps, the Thermal Kβgions, the Western Sounds, and the ArnstWebb boat race. The Hon A. >T. Ngata will recite "Scenes from the Past," and the Harrison Band will contribute several numbers. A lecture on "Tho Continental Question" was given by Dr. Borghetti m the Sydney Street Schoolroom lost night under the auspices of the Northland and Sydney Street Primitive Methodist Mutual Improvement Society. The lecturer was given an attentive hearing, and was accorded a \ote of thanks I for his address. , t
