EARTHQUAKES IN FRANCE

Fresh earthquake shocks of an alarming naturo havo been experienced through tho districts in South and Central France that wow recently shaken. [The deaths by tho recent shocks were estimated at 60.]

MR. STEVENSON'S VIEWS. (B? Telegraph-Special Correspondent.) 1 Auckland, July 11. Mr. J. T. Stevenson, F.It.A.S., interviewed last night, stated that tho indications weie for stormy weather at sea, rain ashore, and flooded rivers, with tho wind between north-east and north-west. He thought tho approaching storm would probably bo of shorter duration than that of last week. As regards earthquakes, Mr. Stevenson considered that the major period of buch disturbances had passed for the year, but predicted that a minor period would sot in nest month, and would' extend at short intervals over several months. Tho shocks would not be so severe as in > the last seismic period jn tho earlier part of the year. Sonio severe "quakes might, however, occur during any one of tho coming minor periods.
