£500 REALISED. \ It was given out a few days ago that providing the \ M.C A. could raibo tho sum of £250 by means of tho recent carnival and special subscriptions, Mrs. W. 11 Williams (tho gcneious donor of tho site of that institution's fine premises in Upper "Willia Street) would supplement that figure with ■another of* a like sum, the total amount being towards wiping off tho first part of the standing debt on the buildins. Excellent work nas dono at tho recenti carnival, and no stono was left unturned to laiso tho necessary sum, but in those times of stringency tho task was found to 'bo no oas\ ono, and, after everything had been totalled, it was found that only £206 had been laised Tho executive was perhaps a little donncaot at not hating qualified at tho first attempt for tho prize held out. A different' aspect, however, was revealed aftea tho last meeting of the board, when it was disclosed that tho additional sum had been lavscd Thiß was communicated to Mrs. Williams yesterday, when that lady promptly handed over a cheque for £250 Tho announcement was mado at a mooting of the Ladies' Auxiliary (Mrs Ilott presiding) yesterday, and was received with enthusiasm, the warmest thanks being ovpr<»ssed to Mrs. Williams and those who had coma forward so liberally at a critical moment.
