THE FARM INDUSTRY.

WAIKATO WINTER SHOW. EXCELLENT BUTTER EXHIBITS. SOME OF THE AWARDS. (By Tclcgrapl-Special Ecportar.) Hamilton, July 7. Waikato people aro naturally proud of their excellent winter show, which, was opened at Hamilton yesterday. As an exhibition, it is more varied than the great national dairy show held recently at Palmerston, but it is less improssivo as regards the more substantial evidences of the industry. Perhaps the magnificent roots, for which Waikato is famous, equal those, shown at Manawatu, and the needlework, cookery, and poultry, aro probably better. The competition in swedes was very keen. .The central featuro of tho show, however, was tho butter, and a tall pyramid of boxes, representing a day's output of'Waikato's butter, was tho most conspicuous \exhibit. It represented 000 boxes, or. 22 J ..tons, worth £2310. There woro only two, classes for factory butter'., One of these was butter exhibits, takon at random from butter I ,consigned -.to'the, grading store during April: and tho other for butter made especially for tho show, but also sent to the grading stores during April. "'This butter will have been either sold on the British, market or sold in tho Dominion, and it is pleasing to see what high qualities the prize butter possesses as regard flavour: and other characteristics.' ' This; he' felt certain; was -a" step' in''thb right 'direction. With regard to cheese, Mr. Thornton'stated that ho was somewhat disappointed that 'there were not .more.'.entries.' wers only six; or seven factories in the province the'fact remained '-that , a; great many exhibitors showed" at Auckland, and ho thought that each-factory should seo its way clear to exhibit a caso at their .district show, The dairy butter displayed good qualities throughout. . ' ... , ~ Mr. J., S. Bond, tho president of the association, who was Mayor of.Hamilton thrco years' ago, when',the:corporation built the horse bazaar in which the show is held, expressed tola' Dominion representative a very hopeful view of the future of tho district. Ho states that he is buoyed up.by tho fact that tho Wellington, ■Taranaki, and Auckland districts aro running neck and neck in butter production, and the Auckland output is'increasing the fastest. ■■ ■ .
