Naumai is expected to arrive at tho Hutt from Ohau any day now, and will be taken in hand by C. Pritchard for the spring meetings. '■ ■ ■ The Poverty Bay Turf Club has under consideration tho institution of a ladies' bracelet race for the October meeting. The club is having a number of improvements made on the grounds before the new season commences. ... Two youngsters by Merriwce, owned by Mr. J. Gelhor, are now in- constant work on the Hutt course, (tee of them is a very promising sort. .White Lie is also in regular work again. . . As Gravitation has been scratched for the New Zealand Cup it looks as if his breakdown is more serious than wasat first anticipated. ■ ~ , '. Rangikapua has had a slight touch' of rheumatism, but. his trainer hopes that he will be well enough to compete in the Trial Plate at Trentham on Saturday week. By the TJlimaroa, which arrived from Sydney yesterday, the Soult pony Herculean was brought'back to Wellington in charge of T. Todd. Herculean started a few times in •Australia, but failed to get on tho winning list. ' ■ Maid of All Work, who was taken across to compete at the Sydney pony meetings, developed a complaint which necessitated her being retired from the racing track, and she was sold to go to the stud. T. Todd, who had chargo of Maid of AH Work, is taking up his rcsidenco at Miramar again/ C. Pritchard's team for the Trentham meeting will comprise Whaiakura, Lares, Tβ Ru, Rangikapua, Aotea, Pikiho, Moccasin, I'ouates, and Lady Paul. -The last |hree are all encaged for events on the second day of the meeting. . ■Whataknra (T. Pritchajd) and Aotea. (A.' M'Cohnon) aro to be schooled at the Hutt to-morrow morning. , ..-.'.■ '.','. Undecided (Monschikoff—St. Amy) is out of-condition, but he is to be given a run in tho Trial Plate at Trenibam next week. Another two-year-old trained at tihe Hutt that is also to be started in the Trial Plate is Marongo (Soult—Dodona). Tβ Arai is engaged in'both the Hurdles and the Steeplechase at the Gisborne meeting to-day, but in all probability he will be started in the cross-country event. The value of the Derby won by Minora was £6450, and after that race his Majesty tho King headed the list of winning owners for the current racing season with a total of £14,077. Since that race', however, the King's .horses have gained further successes, and his winnings must now be close upon £20,000. .: ... ' Trotting apparently is becoming increasingly popular iu the South Island, and tho recently-formed Oamaru Trotting Club and South Canterbury Trotting Club both have satisfactory credit balances. At the annual meeting of the-New Brighton Trotting Club, held on Friday evening, the balance-sheet showed that the season closed with, a credit of £2107 9s. . "■ ; Pearl Reef, who is racing at Gisborne to. day, is a full-brother to the hurdler Gold Dust. He was very fast as a two-year-old, and won several races, but last season ho failed to get on the winning list. 'In today's raco he is to be ridden by W, 'Young. . ■ ' An auction sale of racehorses will take place at Trentham racecourse on Monday, July 19. Tie sale is in connection with the winding-up of the estate of the late Mrs. H. Watson. Among the horses to be offered are Wind (by Sou'-wester), Black Squall (by Somnus), and.three youngsters by Field Battery, some of whose stock have recently realised good prices in Sydney.
