" Our Auckland correspondent writes :-T-'-'Th'e Hon. T.: Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, who'intends to nay a visit to the .Waerenga Experiment/Station; ■ will, while there, make the fullest inquiries regarding a proposal for the extension of the fruitgrowing branch of the station, which has been.under the consideration of, the Government.for some time past. In speaking to a 'Herald' reporter, the Minister said that ho was very anxious to see the fruit industry developed oh practical lines throughout the 'Dominion,: and to this end ho. was considering a suggestion that lad been made as to the training of young men desirous of taking ,'up. fruitgrowing at the experiment'. stations.. ; (There.' were'jlaree areas 'of land' in'; New Zealand which would be very suitable for fruitgrowing, and the industry might be made to afford employment to a very much .larger number of people than, •at.: the present' .time.'- , The Minister that he was fully impressed with,;the importance of ; specialisation in regard-to the experiment stations,- arid it would be his':endeayour togive effect to his .opinion so far'as ! the means, at his disposal would aDqw., v Ho had not formulated any definite scheme/'but ho hoped, for instance, to be! able to pay special attention to the dairy side by raising a reliable strain of milking cows.
