FUTURE POLICY,
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, July 5. "What will be the future policy, of the Tourist Department?" was a question put by a "Herald" ; interviewer to the Hon. I. Mackenzie; the Minister' in • charge of that Department. ~, _ : -.' . • The Minister replied that' the subject was still under consideration, but it was intended to effect as many economies as possiblo, consistent with the maintenance of the efficiency of the Department; Ho was hopeful of being ■;able to show a considerable saving on 1 the current year's estimates. Amongst other features, the West Coast Sounds excursion would be continued on the lines of' that carried but last Easter, and probably Milford Sound would be included in the next.tour of this part of New Zealand. A number of the . present Government accommodation houses will bo, leased. Facilities for workers to avail themselves' of, the tourist resorts would, ho added, >be • provided. as far as possible,; ■
