. . - CONFERENCE EN SYDNEY. ■ Additional motions tabled for the Beventh congress of the Chambers of Commerce of the Empire, to be held in <, Sydney : in [ September, include the following By .the London Chamber of Commerce:— That this congress views with, much satisfaction the interest. shown by the, colonies in-; the recent discussions relating „to the maintenance of the naval supremacy of the Empire, and desires to record in its proceedings tho valuable assistance which .they voluntarily proffered on that occasion ; and further expresses, the hope that either before or at' the. next Imperial Conference some practical scheme may; 'be elaborated which will result in an effective and organised cooperation between the Mother Country and the dominions beyond the seas for the defence of the Empire, its commerce, and trade routes. . 7 'By lie, Leeds Chamber of. Commerces — That, in order to promote, the safety of the Empire,' and the moral and physical welfare of' the population) it ia necessary/that, the youth of the Empire'' should universally undergo such a course of training in discipline and arms as, .without undue ; interference with industrial employment, will fit them to take their' part as citizens for, purposes of the Empire's defence./ By the Association of / Chambers of Commerce, of South .Africa:—This congress .resolves'that,'in its opinion, it is necessary to change, the size of the bag used'for the export 1 trade_ in wheat', and considers that it should be in size/44 inches ,by 26} inches, and be capable of containing 2001b. The congress further, is-.to-be asked- to. resolve' that representations be made, immediately to the Australian Government conoerned-'for the amendment of ..the. present law as-to size of bags,';..; ~ .7 ; ; By the Invercaqpll Chamber of Commerce:—That, in view of the fact that so many vessels have been lost, with much consequent loss of life and property, at tho Auckland and -adjacent islands, 'it is expedient, in the interests of shipping trading between the Commonwealth of Australia and Europe, and al&o in the interests of human life, that a lighthouse be erected on the Snares, _and that its cost and l upkeep be shared m proportions to be agreed upon by the various Governments of the Commonwealth States and the Dominion of 'New Zealand. By the Canadian Manufacturers' Association : That, whereas, with the progress of industry and the development of trado throughout the world, tho establishment of uniform systems of weights and measures and currency .becomes more and. more desirable and necessary. Therefore, be it-re-solved that this seventh' Congress of-Cham-bers.-ofl Commerce of -the Empire recommends'tho appointment by the Imperial Government of a Royal Commission; who shall investigate,-and, if possible, recommend -uni-' form' systems of weights and; measures and currency, to be adopted throughout the British Empire. ', , JThe preliminary list of delegates gives a i total of 78 nt latest advices, but it is believed that the ultimately appointed wiH bo about 150.
