BOXING.

t lUr Mercdii't.) FIXTURES. July 21 and 23.—Nov. Zealand Amateur Championships, Gisbonio. July 28.—Tracy v. Turner (Hastings). July 29.—W.8.A. Tourney. Clarke v. Lectio (Town Hall). Septembor.—Haivko's Bay Championships.

It is more than probable that tho local, association, will bo responsible for the importation to Wellington of two very well-known boxers this season—Sid Sullivan, thd redoubtable little Australian fighter, and "Boer" Unholz, the South African. Negotiations are now in train for suitable opponents for Tracy, and. as tho. purse offered in Sydney through the agency of Mr. Corbett (£IOO and expanses) should be big enough to induce Sullivan to make the trip across, patrons of the sport may consider their chance of seeing him in action in August a good one.. As is known, Tracy meets Bob Turner in Hastings shortly, and if "Tim" disposes of tho Australian, as he should, do on hie present form, the clash with Sullivan may be a thing to remeiriber. The Unholz affair is of course at this early stage very much in tne air, butj if Tracy "makes good" ia his two previous engagements, it will come to pass in September or October, provided terms can be arranged. ■ Tracy's bout with Jack Griffin at Palmerston North.on Tuesday last was similar: to the last engagement at Auckland between the two. On the recent, as on the former, occasion, the Wellington man started badly, and was in serious straits for the opening three or four rounds; Once again hie coolness, condition, and great recuperative powers, allied to. his ring-craft, turned fortune -in his direction, and enabled him to' win handsomely. And that in the sportsnia.nlike manner ■ that always characterises', his boxing. According to local accounts, ..there! can be no doubt that Tim had his man at his mercy in tho two , concluding rounds, and could have finished everything on several occasions. With great forbearance>(oorisiderihg the battering that h'ad. come his way early in the bout) he refrained, and contented himself with piling 'up tne points, waiting for Griffin to hoist the whito'flag, whioh went up in tho eighth round. : This is the third occasion: upon which Tracy hae, beaten Griffin. ■ - '':'■■'.'' Apropos of' Tracy 5 Mr.! Jae. Doyle, : our local athletic enthusiast, writes as under in a letter to the "Referee":—"Do you know, I think Em'Tracy is a very much underrated man. Ho. seems to> beat; them all, with the exception of Keys (who beat; him fairly and squarely) land, Turner ..(who beat him with,luck).. He never loses an hour training, and as soon as the matches over, he is back at his bench cutting away •at old boots—and -when a ; man .is.mendirig, ; bbots, .with his mouth full of pegs, he can't talk much. Ho will;probably beat Turner this time, and!if he does he ought to be in line for the Australian- championship." ■'■['■'.' Ted.
