On their behalf, Mr J j'J M'Grath said that tHey were interested ■, in the Mount Patriarch Mine, which is situated' about 45 mile's from Bknhciin The , deputation had i already spent £350 upon ' development work,*' and intended to expend £150 more ur a batfcory. etc. The 'former Minister for Mines had stated that, 'i the , deputation had made" the. application before proceeding with the work ( they would have received assistance Mr M'Grath also pointed out, thrf one of the Government limes Inspectors had reported favourably on the project ' <The deputation wished "to thoroughly test'the ground. There could be no doubt that the gold could be got there Tho Minister, in reply, pointed out that no assist- ( aiice'could bo given in connection with the work had already been done The , regulations,,he continued, provided only for ' assistance in the matter of prospecting From what lis had gathered, the work, wjiich it was now proposed to carry out, was 'in tho nature of development work , suggested that th« best thing to do would bn for those interested in tbo mmo to form a company If there was any power to grant assistance under the regulations, he would favourably consider the matter 1 i
