HASTINGS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

ANNUAL' MEKONG. (By TolegraplL-Bpceial OantspondcntJ Hastings, June 28, The meeting of tbo Hastings , Chamber of Commeice was held yesterday. The president (Sir Wilfaam Russell), in reviewing the 'events of the year, , touched upon the question of press telo- , ' grams. "It has been the custom to dispatch from Napier late news from Eastings as Napier news. Ihe Chamber of Commerce had been successful in arranging that news sent from Hastings to Napier should be dated and superscribed as from Hastings. In regard to railway matters, the chamber had discussed with the Minister for Railways certain proposals for a faster service to'and from Wellington. The matter was now under consideration. Regarding the HastmgsNapier railway service, the chamber alsodecided to ask the Minister for an early train to and from Narfier for working men, and ;a,lfd that rates ( |jo made similar to and Wellington suburban rates The pre-' Kdent also referred to the fruit industry of Hastings, which was fast developing into , a very important business, and a&o spoke , of tho satisfactory state of trade in Hastings for the past twelve months.
