As they refused to surrender, by order of tho military commander a fire was lighted south of tho cave, was kept going for a while, and then extinguished. v The rebels still remaining obdurate, the fire was relighted. When tho cavo, was ,■ subsequently examined, fivo men, twolvo women', and eleven children wore found suffocated. The Governor of Achcon was so shocked at tho occurrence that ho issued an order to prevent further similar horrors.
