THE WORK OF VANDALS.

A BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY'S WORK .UNDONE. (By TeleEraph—Special Correspondent.) Christchiirch, June 19. Visitors to Christchurch will remember Moorhouse Avenue (otherwise the South Belt).:as a wind-swept thoroughfare two chains wido. To reliove its bareness, the Beautifying Association, some year,s ago, began to plant trees along. the footways. Larrikins damaged n good many, but tho association, undismayed, continued the work about a fortnight ago. Vandalism, however, has again triumphed, and, last Monday morning, a number of the trees, which with their iron guards had, cost 30s. each to plant, were found to be broken off. Tho police have tho matter in hand, but the chances of securing convictions against the offenders are slight.
