STATEMENT BY THE BISHOP OF WELLINCTON.
In. reply to a request from a. Dominion representative for an expression of his opinion on the question of the Anglican Primacy andiproposed Archbishopric,'.the Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Wailis) writes: — ... "I agree/with you 1 that the■ advantages,."if. there be any, of making Wellington the Pritnatial Sec should be stated by someone. It may be my duty-to speak on the subject when the General Synod meets; if so, I will try, to do my best. But. until • t-lien, surely lam the last person to speak on it. By advocating thn proposal, I should seem to covet the honour; by opposing it, to shirk the duties. ■ So, either way, the value of. my opinion would bo small. •. I will, only say that I am strongly against tho proposal.to give'to tho Primate of our-Church, whoever ho may be, the title of 'Archbishop.' • "Yours'very truly, ' ' ; ' ■ "J-'bedebio Wellington."
