In conversation with Colonel Collins, a representative of The DoHfMioS learned, yesterday that quite, a large number, of-prominent riflemen had. expressed their intention, of making the trip "on their own," as "free-bnccs," so to speak. ' . Colonel Collins also stated.that.the representative rifle meeting which he had hoped would be arranged at/ Trenthom immediately following the Sydney, meeting, in order to introduce the visiting riflemen from other parts of tho Empire to the wiles of "tricky.Trenthom," had now been definitely abandoned. "I have since learned that neither Britain nor Canada is sending a team-to Sydney this time; under these circumstances, I do not think that a chainnieiwhip rifle meeting at Trenthamin November would bo.worth while. Tho championship meeting will, therefore, take place in March of next year, ns usual." , ' Has tho selection of Commandant to the New Zealand team for Sydney' been sottled yet?'' Hall to? night to' consider tho question of sending a team to compete at Sydney at tho Jubilee Rifle Meeting, in addition to the team selected by tho association.' Tho feeling was not antagonistic to the selection made by tho association, but it was thought they could seleot a team in Otago and Southland that would bo a" credit 'to tho province.. The cost was computed at about .£3OO. After discussion, the meeting was adjourned to ascertain whether tho leading fif-' teen or. twenty Shots, iu Otago and Southland cotdd go, whether the men selected would b9 competent to compete in all tho matches, 'Including the Empire Macth, and whether they would have tho sanction of the New Zealand Defence :Afsociation;
