ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
EXCITING ADVENTURE,
MOTOR CAPSIZED AND BURNT. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmorstcn, Juno 17. About half-past four on Wednesday afternoon, on the Fitzherbort-Lintbn' Road, a motor-car belonging to the Scott Motor-car Company, and occupied by Mr. Morrah, managor of', tie. Bank of Australasia, Mr. Henderson, deputy-superintendent 'of ■ the bankj Miss'Morrah, and tho chaniloiir, w;iscapsized; and subsequently destroyed by >'fire. > fhe party had left Palmerston in the morning" m tho car—a-10-12 Argyle, worth about £350 visited Levin, and wero on tho return journey Vv'.hon the accident occurred. It appears that, just after passing . M.r. D. Ayson's residence, tho car met a vehicle at a very narrow portion of tho road; 'In passing, one of tho wheels of the car just went over the side of-the road. It was.quite sufficient, however, ■ to cause the accident, tho weight of tho car and the wot road taking'it down w^ere it capsized, pinning all but Mr. Henderson .under, tho.car. Ho ,of course, was' quite powerless to'extricate'the others from, their position, but, fortunately, another vehiclo came along, and the cor was lifted sufficiently to let those pinned down geti out. The party then proceeded to Mr Aysons for assistance, which was readily granted, but, on returning to the car,'which' had been badly damaged by tho capsize, it was found to bo in flames, caused, doubtless by a spark and the leaking bonzino. Nothing oouldl be done to pnt-out'the fire,' and tho car was totally destroyed. Mr. and Miss Morrah wore dmen into town by Mr. the' restipame ill- in Mr. A.; Strang'S' car."' No one*' was_ injured, though Miss MorraTi was greatly frightened. Inquiry shows that no blame was attachable to anyone, the'accident being oa.used entirely by tho narrow road, and the s J' pp6 s ba , nk °, The driver of. tiro'vehicle that was passed when the accident' occurred did not stop, and was apparently unaware of the mishap.
