WESTERN PETONE SCHOOL. The Western Petone School is practically finished, and almost ready for occupation. The brickword and plastering, for which Messrs. Southgate and Melhuish had tho subcontract, has been completed, and all the building, which \v&s included in the work of the contractors (Messrs. Croft and Son), has been done; The men are now engaged in grading tho playpound, and in that connection, Mr. M'Dougall, the Education Department's architect, visited the site yesterday and decided tho levels. A tender for the erection of a boundary fence between the.school and the road on .one side and the Maori property on the other has been accepted.
MASONIC INSTALLATION. At Lodge Ulster, No. ,62, Petone, last night, the installation of Bro. Richard Wylie as Worshipful Master and the investiture of officers took place. Tho Installing Master was R.W. Bro. R. Fletcher, Deputy-Grand Master, assisted by M.W. Bro. E. J. Williams, P.G.M., Wor. Bro. C. J. Beard, and Wor. Bro. A. W. Stevens. The Director of Ceremonies was Wor. Bro. It. Mothes, P.G.D.C. Addresses were as f°How:—To tho Worshipful Master (B.W. Bro. R. Fletcher,-Deputy-Grand Master), to the Wardens. (Wor. Bro. Charles J. Beard, W.M., Groytown Lodge), and to the brethren (M.W. Bro. H. J. .Williams, P.G.M.). A reply was given by the newly-elected W.M.
JOTTINGS.. the weekly meeting of the Petone LO.G.T. Inst night a discussion took place on 'International Fraternity." •A meeting' of the Htrtt Valley Tramway Board- will be held at LoweT Hutt on IViday, when Mr. H.S. King's report on methods of propulsion will come up for consideration. It is .understood that there are already over 100 applicants for the headmastership of the new Petone West School.. Monday Is the day 6et down for the sitting of tho Magistrate's Court at.Petone, but as the Magistrate is unable to come out, the Court will have to be taken by justices. Comment has been made on the fact that during the past two • months a Magistrate has only spent a ferc hours at 'Hutt and Petone.
