DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD.

A meeting of tho District Hospital Board was held yesterday morning, Mr. R, C.Kirk presiding.: Thcro wore also present Messrs. M. Murdoch,- J. Smith, C. JV Crawford, J. W. M'Eiv'an, and W. Galloway. Tho monthly report of tlio Otaki Hospital stated that/ during May, 15 patients woro admitted, and 11 discharged. Tho vacancies for sisters had" been filled by Misses Craig mid Wostoby, of tho Wellington Hospital. Tho ciiairman v remarked that tho hospital had been very busy: during-tho past month. Four patients wcro admitted to the Otaki Sanatorium during tho month and four discharged,, and ton taeiC and'.ls women were' under treatment'at present. Tho matron reported that, of t'lio four patients discharged, two were now able to work. The chairman reported that nothing definite had been arranged 'with roforeuco to' tho deputation to tho Goyernment regarding tho losb of revenue its a result of tho lessening of rating valuo through tho Goveminent taking over tho Mflnowatu rail*, way line. Tho liopo was expressed by members that the deputation obuld bo arranged at an early dato after tho adjournment , ol Parliament. ' ' A sum of £22 55., representing outstanding fees, was written off the Otaki Hospital account. In answer to a question as to tha procedure in these cases, the chairman said that no ninount was ever written oil until full inquiry had been made. It was recognised. however, that it was of no avail keep, ing those amounts on t'lio books whoa- thora was no .possible, chance'of getting them in. Tho hoard placed on record its appreciation of tho work done by Mr. Bassett during tho twelve months ho lias been in tho employ of tho board as overseer of outside work. • The statement of accounts showed a credit of £1870 7s. Id., against which thcro woro accounts for payment totalling £1063 17s. 3d.
