At tho last meeting of tho County Council, it was reported that all the timber had been shifted from the bridge, by the' Borough ; Council employees, ■ and it - was - decided to mention the fact to tho Borough Council. In reply, the council stated that tho engineer had had tho timber shifted to Scandia Street, and had not returned it, because tho County Inspector ,(Mr. Bastin) had stated that he could as easily remove his share from Scandia Street as anywhere else, and had already shifted some. At yesterday's nioeting, Mr. Bastin denied that ho or his men had shifted any timber from Scandia Street, but, admitted saying,that ho could shift it'from there. He had found , since, . however,-. that tho timber was scattered all ajong the tram line. Councillor Bateholor complained that the Borough Council had appropriated all the good material, and only left the short timber for tho' county. . Councillor, Collis said , that thero had beon.-a certain amount of carelessness on tho part of the county in' hot looking" after the timber, and they had themselves .to blame to some oxtent. In reply to a. question, the chairr man'said that there was still about 2000 ft. owing.' A vcrdiot was returned that death TCBulted from arsenical poisoning, the poison being self-administered. . Deceased, who was 39 years of ago, was tho wifo of Mr. A. Woodloy, farmer, of Konini. Considorablo. rain fell on Monday night and yesterday, and all the rivers are in a state of flood, but so far no damage has been reported. At a meeting of the sub-committee of'tlio Paihiatua-Akitio Agricultural aud Pastoral Association, held on Monday, Jlr. J. A. Walsh was appointed secretary for tho society. LEVIN. Mr. Wactzcl, a well-known settler, of Beach ltoad,-Wereroa, gayo a farewell social to several friends on Monday oveJiing, prior to his departure for New Plymouth. Tho ladies' auxiliary of tho Y.M.C.A. have decided to make ail urgent appeal to tho residents of Lovin and surrounding district for boots, clothing, etc. These will bo supplied to local families who are in need of help, and any surplus goods will bo forwarded to .Wellington for distribution, It is hoped that a. ready response will bo inado to this appeal.
