ANNUAL CONVENTION. (DT TELEaHirH—ritESB ASSOCIITIOU.) Christchuroil, June 15. Tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance oommenced this morning, delegates from all parts of t'ho colouy being preseat. Mr. Wesley Spragg, president of the alliance,, occupied the chair. Sir. Spragg briefly welcomed all those present, and congratulated, tie Temperance party on tho progress made during the last throe years, and asked one and .all to assistin making tlio convention the most important, yet held. , The Rev. F. Vf. Isitt (secretary) submitted the annual report, ivhidi placed oil reoord the self-denying efforts of all those whoso untiring work am energy had been instru-. mental in showing the position in whioli theif cause now sitandß. Out of 76 electorates only 15 carried Continuance with a majority for liquor, 60 had a majority for No-License, and of these no fewer than 15 had secured a 65 percent, majority, A .total vote of 221,471 was given at the last poll—an increase of •22,703 over tho roto of 198,768 ca6t in 1905. For tho whole Dominion the majority for No. Liccnse was 33,331. ' This, was ono of tflw most gra.tif.viig features of the elections, and one which had greatly impressed-the whoto people. The report also made mention of the visit of the Rev. R. B. S. Hammond,, d Sydney, of the Rev. H. F. Palmer, Mrs. Har« risen Leo, Miss Hughes, and Mr. Bruntnell, 1 all of whom helped on the cause by delivering , .lectures in all parts of tho Dominion. Temperance instruction in schools was ' then slightly referred to, and the report then proceeded to. deal very strongly with the issue of wholesale liconsca in tho King Country, and concluded nvith a clause relating to tho Reduction issue. . Mr. Dawson, showed a balanco of £63 14s. 10d: of income over expenditure, while th« assets woro shown to be £236 2s. lOd., Mr. Wesley Spragg, of . Auckland, _ was again elected president, and the election of other officers was left over till the meeting on Thursday. . . . 1
