At_tho monthly meeting of the Featherston County. Council at Martinborough there were present: Councillors A. D. M'Leod, J.' Martin, A. M. Wilkinson, T. Benton, J. M'Leod, .A.' Matthews, P. E. Perry 3 and.O. - Donald. The treasurer's statement, showed the. state of .the accounts'of the ridings as follow town,. dr., £381,35. 9d:; I<eatherstoii, jlr., £12 12s. 2d.V Western Lake, dr., £147 15 s. 2d.; Kahutitre, dr., £138 3s. Id.; Otaria, dr., £133,35. Id.; Tauranganui, cr., £49 '14 s. 4d.;.Awhea, dr., £277 13 s. 6d.; J aheoa,. dr.,; £158 Os. 9d.; Martinborough, cr., £4i) 9s. lid. Tile Tvalmtara.River .Hoard wroto regretting that the council. could not see its wny to grant the necessary permission to. cross the county - road., with' the proposed stop bank. A motion was'carried .to tho effect that .tho council would grant the permission asked for, providing tho board would guarantee any extraordinary loss to its roads in that district where the bank was to be. Councillor Perry voted strongly against the proposal, and asked that it bo recorded that he .had .done .so. Councillor .J.. M'Master wroto ■ forwarding his resignation as. councillor. for. the Fcatherston County. Tho chairman expressed great regret that Councillor M'Master was resigning, as he was a' good worker, and it would bo hard, to .replaco him. He moved that the resignation be accepted. Mr. W. Barton'wrote stating that it was hi« intention to closo the White Bock Road'in six months. Ho had exchanged a strip ,of ground for a now road.' and work had been oommenoed •on • it. The Government. suddenly stopped the work, and refused to go on with it. He did not mind that, but when he closed the old road there would be' no road for the settlers in tho district. In speaking on this, the chairman, said that thev had last year, asked for a grant of £400. Tliis' was to bo supplemented by private money, and the road made. When tho estimates came down there Was a straight-out. grant for £1600 for tho Whit© Rock Road. Work was commenced, but about. Christmas it was suddenly discovered that' the Department- had decided that the yrork was illegal, and it was stopped. Since' then; no work'had been dono" on.'the road at r '. It was decided to call the attention ot the Department to the fact that, when tho. old road was closed, the settlers would have no road at all.' The chairman was authorised; to affix seals and sign tho lease of the Ferry Hotel. . The overseer reported that the lessee was doing good work in'clearing away, the gorsc, and was looking after tho placo mAccordance with the lease.. .Tho Chr ' 1 ; nf-Commerco received word ,on Saturday tiiai, the Postal Department had decided to begin tho daily'mail service to Souti"' Fcatherston and Tauherenikau as ad vooafenft. by tho chamber. The servico, embraees/tho delivery of tho mail to, tho places mentioned andicarrying to and from tie station. and the post office. The prico is-to bo abd.'.t £120. Next Thursday afternoon the married ,men of the Hockey Club,v.oSl'play,the single members on tho reserve. '
