Brilliant sheet lightning is playing over tho sky southwards, the flashes following each oiler with extraordinary rapidity, and lighting up .the whole city and harbour as though searchlights wore in operation. Tho galo on Saturday night caused a great disturbance of the sea on both coasts, and the breakers on Takapuna beach, in Haurakj a quiet spotwere heard five miles away, which is quite a unique thing.' Torrential rain, with a heavy gale, prerailed last night. Glass houses were blown down and windows broken. Three large pine trees opposite the. Post Office were torn out' >f the ground, and aro now blocking Trafalgar Street. The harbour boll buoy broke vway from its moorings, and was stranded on >he Tahuna sands.
