Fitzgerald, of the Pctone Workshops, who leaves this morning on transfer to 'Auckland, was given by two presentations inado to him Inst evening. At the Binpiro Hotel a gathering or Association football enthusiasts presented him with a pipe and tobacco-pouch, the gift being handed w the recipient oy the secretary, Mr. D. P. Jones. At the Catholic Clnb later Hi the evening Mr. Fitzgerald received a handsome travelling bag,, suitably inscribed. Complimentary speeches were made by Messrs. A.' Coles, i). P. Jones, and J. Cairns. A special meeting of the Pctone Borough Council is to be held (probably on Thursday night) to consider the estimates for tho coming year. The rates to be struck this-ycar will depend greatly on tho estimates. The amount spent last year on all works in 'tho borough was about .£IB,OOO. It is oxpected that the sum .to bo expended this year will be botween .£19,000 and .£20,000. The chief items are sanitation, water and gasworks, and the eastern drainage scheme, has to be considered. The deputation from the Hutt Park Committee, consisting of the chairman (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Mr. J. W. M'Ewai t , oefc up to interview Messrs. Stafford and Treadwell on the subject of their account for .£69 17s. and costs amounting on the lowest scale to about twenty guineas, was to have waited on the firm yesterday,' but the meeting was postponed for a few days. ITc Monday night's meeting of the. Petone Borough Council, Mr. V». H. Cook (borough engineer) will probably submit a report on the advisability of. establishing tepid' baths in the Recreation Ground. , At the annual general meeting of the Pe'tone Bowling Glnb next week, Mr. H. Findlay will move: "That steps be taken with a'view of acquiring an area of 140 i 160 feet of additional land owned by the Buick Estate, and adjoining tho present green, for the purpose of extending our premises by an additional green." The membership is very large, too large for tho; present accommodation, and as the club is in-'an excellent condition financially, it is thought that the time is opportune to take this step. It is stated that the Sisters of Notre Dame de Missions have purchased a section trom Mr. O. V, Ellis, in Britannia Street, adjoining their own property, for the purpose of erecting a convent and residence for tho sisters. Tho price was understood to have been between £800 and £900. Mr. TV; Joyce has been elected secretary of the Petone Catholic Club in succession to Mr T. Fitzgerald. The Hutt Borough Council's estimates and rates will bo dealt with at Monday night's meeting ofthe conncil. ■, Tho ladies of the Catholic" Church, Peton'e, aro holdings bazaar and art union on November 9 for the purpose of raising funds in aid of tho schools and church. Already generous offers of assistance from outside places nave been received, and a successful function is assured. . \ ■ The monthly meeting of tho Hutt River Board, which was to have been held last night was adjourned until next Thursday for want of a quorum.
