Writing to the'"Press" l on ! the'"subject of ■the wlieat market; ;Mr. H. Wood, chairman:! of. the! Flourmillers' . Association, ' states'lf there, was'any, foundation for'the ;rejiort of Australian buyers', intentions, it is only reasonable to suppose.that they would first turn their attention to those districts..largely, in:tßrested in. producing wheat,, but it is "going from home to hear news'/With a vengeauco when; we find that they know all. about itim ,a: district which grows just ■ a small fraction ' ovor ono per cent, of tho wheat produced in the Dominion, whilst n'othing is known of it in .thp district which grows 72 J per "cent.-of. tho wheat crop. ; It ; is,: perhaps, scarcely worth while wasting time to point out : how this [ "information" is being made to, suit. First of all,, we are told two Australians are coming over to buy. Then wo are told that ■ Hhoy have'been buying for two months past. Quite willing that tho truth of tho position should bo judged by the statement of the -Auckland miller, that "more than half'of tho two" million bushels surplus had been shipped , to London," Mr. Wood then quotes from the "New Zealand Trade Review" figures showing that from February 1 to Slay 31 the total shipmemts of wheat ..totalled ,156,463 sacks (say,. 521,5-13 bushels). He has veri-. fied these' figures by the returns of vessels actually cleared, such returns, having been' obtained from various Customß offices.',
