HOCKEY.
WEDNESDAY MATCHES. The following are tho details and scores of hookey matches played ■ yesterday Pakeha (2) v. Artillery A (2). This match was played on the Basin Beserve, and, after a very hard-fought game, resulted in a draw.. In the first spell Artillery had much their own way, goals Ixsing scored by James and Payne. In the eecond spell Pakeha also scored two goals, both of tnem being shot by Mackey. The referee was Mr. Carver.
Post and Telegraph (3) r. Y.M.CJL (2). Y.M.C.A. had the . best of the game throughout, and their loss was duo to the want of combination. In:the first spell Tyrrell and Owens scored for Poet and Telegraph. In the second spell Owens shot'another one for P. and T., while Cooper and Tooby shot for Y.M.C.A., the game resulting in a .win for P. and T.. by 3 goals to 2. The referee was Mr. Cusack. Hui Mai A (4) v. Petone A (2). 'This match was played at Kolburne Park, and resulted in a win for the former team by 4 goals to 2. Petone had tho bast of the sccond spell. In tho first spell Garbs (2), Hoy ana Kucli shot for Hui llai, while. M'Ewen shot for Petone.: In the sccond spell MTJwen again shot one for Petone. Mr. .Goodman was referee. . 'Karori (4) t. Artillery B (0). This game was played at Karori, and resulted in a'win for Karori by 4 goals to nil. In the first spell Colo (2) scored for the winnera, while, in the second spell. Cole and Lower again scored for . them. The : game was very willing on both sides, but Karori showed tho best combination. Mr.' Sherwood was referee. Petone B (3) v. Hui Mai B (0).. ; This match resulted in a win for Petone by
8, goals to nil. Beswick (2) and Parraht (1) were the.scorers, Mr; Taylor waa-Teferee. ■
The Hni Mai Hookey Club (Wednesday) held a smoke concert last evening, Mr. J. C. Cueack presiding. 'About 80 members and friends were present. _ The following toasts were honoured :— "The King," "The Ilui Mni Club," proposed by Mr. M'Dowell of the Petone Club, and responded to by the captain, Mr. F. Kuch; "Kindred Sports,' proposed by Mr. Hunter, and responded to by Mr. J. MTiwan; "The Ladie?," and "The Press." Items wero riven by Messre. M'Cready, _MHwan Bros., Kuch, ■ .Duncan, Drury, Levin, Lipnett, Mcarns, Mason, Henshaw, Bruce, Taylor, Benge, and. Snelling. Mr. Lawson presided at the piano. >' • VISIT OF AN ENGLISH TEAM. (Pr TELEQP.iPH—TP.KSS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, June 9. Mr. E. Norden, President of tlio Now Zealand Hockey Association, left- by the s.s. Navua to-day, en routo to England. Mr. Norden stated that'during his stay in England he will approach- the English Association in regard to the proposed visit of an English team of hookey players to New Zealand. Tho visit of an English team to New Zealand was mooted 6on)o time ago, and several schemes havo been propounded. A club visit was suggested at one time, but tho general feeling is that a team 'coining out nnder the auspices of tho English Hockey Association would bo preferable.
