Carter, of the Government railway station staff, is at presont relieving at Ngabauranga. Mr. J. It. Watt returned to Wellington by the Main Trunk line from Auckland after several weeks' absence in. Australia.
: Mr. Geo. Barnes, Messrs. Moynell and Gunn's manager, was a passenger from Auckland by too Main Trunk yesterday. 'Tho appointment of Councillor Lynneborg as Deputy-Mayor of the Onslow Borough Was mitdo Dy tho council last evening. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. G. Harkness) intimated that ho intended leaving for Sydney on July 9 to attond a conference.

Mr: Henry Bracy arrived from Sydney by tho Mooraki yesterday to take over the s'ta'go management of tho Koyal Comic Opera Company, \vhicli passes through Wellington today. The tour of the North Island- has broken'all existing records, and "The Merry Widow,V whicli was so warmly recoived hero, had no difficulty in ingratiating herself everywhere, and on returns it is tho most successful comic opera ever staged by the Koyal Comic Opera Company. Mr. Basil Donne, who wont as far as Sydney to .soo his parents off to England, returned to Wellington by tho Mooralri yestcrday.
Mr. Laurence Wobstor, a son of Mr. M. M. Webster, of NcJson, has been appointed General Manager for Australasia for tho Eastern Extension Telegraph Compaay, with headquarters in Adelaide. Dr. Wundorlieh, of tho Wundoriioh OaSing Co., arrived from Sydney yesterday on «. business and holiday visit combined. After sponding a few days in Wellington ho .will proceed north.
Tho Rov. Father Keogh, who is retiring from Mio rectorship of St. Patrick's College, will bo entertained by tho laity' at a function to be held at the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Monday, Juno 21.
According to tho "Groymoiith Evening Star," Mr. Harry Lauder, the noted Scotch oomedian, has a brother at Runanga. His name is Mr. Mat. Lauder, and at a recont eonoort he sang his brother's rong, "I Lovo a Lassie."

Major A. B. Boyd-Wilson, formerly of the Inniskillon Dragoons, and who. fought in th» Boer war as second in commandof Hhorneycroft's Horse, arrived from Auckland yoefcerday. Since the Boer war Major Boyd-Wilwn has seen service in the last Zulu war, when ho was in the Natal Rangora. ■ It is possible that he will settle in Now Zealand.
Mr. William Crajie, jun., of the staff of the "Sydney Morning Herald," arrived from Sydney by the Mooraki yesterday. ! Ho is to judgo all breeds of dogs at the Dunedin Show next week. Mr. Crane is a ■ distinguished chess player, and .has hold tJie ohamnion&ip of Australasia on two occasions. His brother, Mr. A. R. Crane,> is manager for ttio Auckland Farmers' Association at Whangared.
