TJio wages paid were eight sliillingß and axpouco, while the awai-d wago was nine siiilluigs. Defendants urged that tho man wa» employed as a genera] useful hand, and not as a carpenter. Tho company.were fined £2 and twolvo shillings costs. The Bartholomew fimbor and Land Company, was also prosecuted by tho same inspector on tho ■same charge. Defendants urged that ono shilling, per week had been kept back for tiio rent of a cottago in wliich a man lived. ■ Tina, wore fined £7, and costs thirty shillings.
