A staff ride of all the officers of tho mounted forces in. the Wellington Military District was held hero to-day', under the direction of Cokraol Bauohop, who was accompanied by his adjutant, Major Mao Donald. A total of between 30 and 40 officers took part and tho plan of campaign was discussed at a mooting held last evening, after wliich a social evening was spent. Tho special idea was that a Bluo force of 1500 had landed at Foxton, and was advancing on Palmorston, while a Rod force was opposing the raiders. ,- 'Ho. consequent operations wero on -■ Fitzherbert Hills, and occupied all day. They were regarded as a success,, and are intended to be first of a series.
