DISTRESS SIGNALS IN THE STRAIT
STEAMER PROCEEDS TO THE SCENE. Captain Carey, of tho coastal .steamer Waihi, which arrived from Blenheim last night, had interesting information to impart though details aro not to hand. Ho stated that, when tho Waihi and tho Blenheim wero about twelve miles oil the Wairau Bar, on tho trip to Wellington, n vessel was sighted throwing up distress signals. Captain Watson, of tho Blenheim, put off to tho vessel's assistance, while tho Waihi continued on her voyiißO to Wellington. Tho Blenheim had not reported details up till 2 a.m. •
