MAY WEATHER.
Mr. Bates reports that the weather in May was very sunny, warm, and pleasant for the time of the year. Thoro were .several 'showers, but the rainfall was light,; 2.16 inches being registered on 18 days. Tho average for the previous 47 years is 4;89 inches, and in that period a lower rainfall has only occurred seven times. Tho'maximum fall,'oh May 6, 'was only .38in'. The mean temperature air in shade, 54.4 degrees, is 1.6 degree higher than the normal. The .maximum was .65.2 degrees, and the minimum tomperaturo was, 41.2 degrees. Tho mean maximum temperature in' the. sun. was' 92 de- ; grees/'l/The'mmimum'. temperature' on the grass was 32 degrees, on- May 27, and no other ': frost was .recorded.' .-The total-.bright sunshine was 152 hours 52- minutes. Last year. May was also a sunny,'.and-, dry month, but.the. total' then w;as-144, hours..24; minutes.' Two ;sunless days were recorded in. May last year and-this. The mean velocity'of the wind was 321 miles per day.'.as against, 389 last year in the same month. Northerly' winds prevailed. .Earth temperatures declined, during the month, fully two degrees at Ift. and 3ft.', the maximum being 56. at Ift. and 57 at 3ft., and the■ mini'-, ■ mum 52 and 53 degrees respectively. The moan re- '■■ lativo humidity was 75 per. cent of' saturation, , and-tho mean dew point. 45.5 degrees. • The mean barometer pressure was above tho aver: age,-the maximum, 30.464, occurring on May 20, 1 and. tho minimum, 29.530, on May 7. '
