OUR MEAT FREEZING INDUSTRY.
(To TH£ EdITOB.) Sir, —On the 18th of this month' shipments afloat for Great Britain of sheep and lambs from Australasia totalled 1,537,000 (over. a million and a. half), of which only 145,000 are from Australia, leaving New Zealand shipments 1,392,000, whilo North Island mutton is selling. at, an average price of 2jd. per' pound, and yet I read that a now Wairarapa Freezing Company is proposed, because the existing companies cannot, deal with the stock fast enough. .-■"'' I trust the abbvo figures will prove to all interested that our meat is being dealt with a groat deal too fast. Some remedy must bo found for this appalling congestion of the London market, and tho remedy is "increased storage at this end, with limited shipments." "" The gravity of this position makes apology unnecessary.—l am, etc., W. NELSON. "" Tomoana,. Hnwke's Bay, .-' May .31,, 1909.'
