HOCKEY.
: A'novel, dispute has arisen in hockey circles clearly demonstrating the necessity for'a New Zealand.Hockey Beierees' Association. .Both the Wellington and the Wanganui Associations are desirous of holding a conference of referees to seoura uniformity in the, interpretation ot the rules. Mr.,K. L. Jones, secretary of the Wellington Association, advised the Wanganui Association of the decision to hold a conference here. The; latter body replied, as follows :-'M.t our annual meeting it was agreed that a hockey referees .conference would be'greatly beneßcial to hookey throughout the "Dominion. Ono object' would be' to form a New Zealand Association.so,that the different centres con be kept up-to-date with new rules, etc. We consider that the Arnst-Wcbb boat race affords.a splen-' did opportunity for a thoroughly representative meeting, so, we are holding a conference hero on June 21 at 7. p.m. We trust you will make an effort to assist us. in'this matter and will beanie to send-at least one delegate to the conference." • vThis by no means meets the. wishes of the Wellington Association, and as Mr. Jones is leaving on holiday, vacation on Saturday, ho will go to : Wanganui and interview that association, pointing out the unanimity of the Wellington, meeting deciding to hold the conference,, and the, fact that his instruotions are to circularise; the.various associations. His iu. tentioh • is; to personally interview the Napier, Hastings, l and Auckland' Associations on the matter. The (Wanganui Association has-been advised of this by a letter to the secretary. , .;;. ..THURSDAY'S' MATCHES." '. ■As Mr, K.-'-.C. Morpeth is unable to refereo at the,.-.
