A.seaman named Matthew Moore, recently admitted to the 'hospital from Foxton, and suffering from a fractured knee cap, died at' tho institution last evening. An inquest was opened yesterday afternoon by ;tho Coroner' (Captain Mowlem), and after formal evidence had been heard was adjourned to Forton to. resume date, as deceased's vessel arrives there, . .'•..'.. INJURED BY A FALL OF EARTH. (Br TELSQEirn—TEISS iBSOCIATIOH.) ' Hamilton, June 1. A man named Strott,.' while working at clay putting this afternoon near the traffic bridge in the . course of erection, was severely injured by a sudden fall of earth. Ho was extracted alive with extreme difficulty, and his recovery is improbable. The injured man has a wife and three children. He only started work yesterday, after being out of employment for some months.' TWO INQUESTS. ■ ■', ■■- . Walroa, Junel. ! The police have gone to conduct inquests at Makituri, touching the death of the man named Berg, killed wiile bushfalling, also tho Maori lad drowned in tho Ruakituri River. ' FELL\ INTO THE HARBOUR. A lad naitaed Thos. Jenkins fell into the harbour yesterday whilst playing with some other boys on the jetty next to the Thorndon Baths. Mr. A. Firth, caretaker of Thorndon Baths, noticed tho accident, and dived into the uninviting water and pulled the boy out. STRUCK BY A MOTOR-CAR. Whilst cycling along Courtenay Plaoe'yesterday a telegraph messenger named Hobman was knocked down by a motor-car. The machine tho boy was riding w.as badly damaged, buttho boy himself bad the good fortune to escape with a sovere shaking. ' ■ A PAINFUL EXPEDIENCE. A serious gun accident happened'at Mata-; Tacwa on Sunday morning (says our Greytowri correspondent), when Messrs. J. Phelps, jun., and Stratford were out shooting. The two were walking through some scrub, one behind the other,' when the tatter's gun hammer became entangled in the scrub, pulled back, and when let go discharged the gun into Phelps's leg, doing serious injury. Mr. Stratford left to get help, which he procured, but was unable to find the unfortunate man. till next morning, when he was brought into tho hospital for treatment. i
BITTEN BY A HO. Our Groytown correspondint states that a young man named C. Bicknoll, while loading pigs into a brake, yesterday, had finger bitten off by one of tho animals.
