HOCKEY AT PETONE.

.^•"T^ 5 a reader of your valuable journal, winch has earned a reputation' in tho sporting world, I crave permission to refer briefly to the great disadvantages under which teams visiting Potone labour. Tho Management Oommitteo of tho ■Wellington Hockey Association is already at loggerheads -with not a fcjr hockey supporters, and unless some satisfactory arrangement is made with regard to tho matches in which the-Pofcono Club is to engage, endless trouble will necessarily, arise. My objections, are: (1) Visiting teams are required ,to travel eigne miles by train and •throe miles by any other means of locomotion 1 available before- arriving at tho club's ground; (2)- the grounds are so situated as to render it extremely difficult for visitors to find tbom, so that town .teams will in all probability bo obliged-in most instances to play shorthanded; (3) if tho 2.20 train is missed,, no other'train will allow players to arrivo in time for the match; (4) the Petono ground is _ absolutely ■ unfit for" hockey i matches,'this being the universal opinion of referee and visiting players on;. Saturday' last; it is not marked off, a considerable. • amount of gorse has just been grubbed, and ■; a large quantity still remains on tho ground, • and 'the goal posts are not fitted with, nets. ] I:ask: "Aro players fit to play under those | conditions after a. thrce-milo walk?" Hoping ] somo. amicable settlement will.be arrived j at,—l anv etc.; .''!■■'■' . . FAIR PLAY. . : , May .29. •.'.:, j
