ANOTHER PII'E GIVES WAT. MOTION TO DUPLICATE THE PIPES. As stated in yesterday's Dominion, tho broken pipo'iti the,, Waituii main, on the Hutt road, was replaced by a new one oil Sunday night, but,' 1 unfortunately for the acouracy of another statement in our paragraph, as well as for tho convenient of householders on the-high levels, - a further mishap occurred when the main was charged. It is supposed that tho fall of rock, which broke one 12ft pipe, caused a small crao' in tho next ono,; too small to be disccrnJsl at night, for this pipe also burst under the pressure of urater. When tho City Engineer (Mr. \Vi H. Morton) was rung up late last night, ho stated that the work of repairing was not quite finished, and it was just possible that 'somo othof pipe might give way when tho main was again charged. This, however, would not be known until ail early hour this morning. All available men were at work' on the main, and he could only hope that the water would be in full supply toiay. _ v In conncotion with this matter, [ Councillor J. P. Luke will move at to-morrow night's meetingof tho City, Council :—(l) That tho couhcil is of tho opinion that the duplication of tho Wainui water main is a work of urgent necessityj and resolves that the. proposal bo submitted to tho ratepayers at an early date. (2) That tho city ciittineer he instructed to report to tho council his'recommendation, together with detailed estimates of cost for tho construction, laying, and connecting up proposed main to city s requirements. (8) That tho Finance Committco bo requested to consider ways and means and report to tho council their recommendations for tho oarrying out of the proposed undertaking.
