FIVE CALVES AT A BIRTH.
Several paragraphs have been appearing lately in English papers recording instances, ancient or recent, of numerous progeny produced at a birth by cows.' Mr. P. A. Vaile, of. Auckland, has made a contribution to the question ,in the London ''Field" with • the following letter. "Sir,—Seven or oight'years ago a,.cow belonging .to L Mr. ,E.. J. Le. Rae, a well-known trainer of-raeehorses'-in Auckland; gave birth to a 'litter' of five calves. It was very amusing to haar-the owner's account of the repeated visits of a farm hand to announce the 'additional additions.' I forget what happened to them. —P. A. Vaile." .
