Ho ■■ ■ . said tho. main. thing. was' that .tho members' committee and tho giris must wprk with Miss v Macky, and thoir workmust be niado attractive. .He'wished'the association .every suc- ..' cess, and hoped that it would soon bo. as b flourishing.■■as--'tho Y.M.C.A.,' and with, a £ hostel of its own.:. . ;. B /'-Miss Maclean told how, during tho.months they had boon .without a secretary,, the memj- bers. of._.tjhe'.association had. worked magnifi- ; 0011%, and kept things going in a way the ! committee*. would never, havo dreamed possible. :It had.been "a very good thing for them to he -thrown on their own resources, / and it had fitted them to bo efficient helpers for Miss Mackymow that shohadcomo to bo f thoir /secretary. The association was quite democratic; in character,' and the members ■ met on common ground, trying to carry out tho motto of the association, "Bylove serve • ono another." Tho interest that citizens of Wellington,took in tho success of the As-" ■ sociation was evidenced some days ago, when ono lady sent a cheque for £50.., She hoped : that this,examplowould bo.followed by many . of the audience!' ~.■■ .•■■':. Ho ; remarked that men required more looking after than'women—they had -not so many means of eniploying, their'leisure how that the'young/men l were'provided for, he hoped 'that people-would turn their':attention to the .needs of tho 'women. ".He. also emphasised tlio'hee'd.for'ashostcl.':' Mr. Holmes, a secretary of tho Y.M.C.A., welcomed. Miss Macky, Ho felt that thero : was great-, need for -a. women's association, in Wellington, and a great work for it to do. ■■.Miss. Macky, l in-a'graceful little speech, thanked those present ..for/their kindly.welcome, and said that she hoped their high expectations, for tho. usefulness'of the, associa- ■ tion would.;be realised.' The. months which sho had.spent in Sydney had given. her an in-' ; sight into valuable methods of work, and she hoped that she would bo ablo to follow on similar, lines..-.
