' Tho finding of the commission from the Presbytery in connection with Knox Church will bo submitted to.tho congregation on Sunday next. In the-- absence of tho' Rev. James M'Caw, of Martinborough, who is one of tho commissioners, the report will, bo read by tho Rev. A. T. Thompson. The Rev. G. W. Sharp, of Hobart, who is visiting New Zealand, conducted the services at the local Congregational Church on Sunday, preaching to largo congregations. Mr. Sharp was the first representative of Congregationalism in Tasmania. He has occupied tho pulpit in tho fino Memorial Church, Hobart, for over 25 years, and is still one of the most vigorous Congregational preachers in Australasia. Mr. C, C. Tho past week has been a fairly brisk one in Pahiatna, so far as meetings and entertainments are concerned, and the patronage- extended to the latter is somewhat at variance with the cry of dullness in business quarters and the apparent scarcity, of money-in tho district. ■ A skating rink was open tyro nights during the week, and the proprietors certainly could not complain of-the patronage accorded. A dance and social was held in aid of the Fire Brigade funds; which also proved a great attraction, while, as for picture shows, there has been a. surfeit. A slight fire which , .(occurred'at'ltfrs. Milno's store, Wereroa, yesterday afternoon, was extinguished, before'much darnago was done. . Mr; "\V. E. Eggleton, headmaster at. tho boys' farm, niet .with a painful accident the other day, caused by twisting tho cartilcge of the right knee. .'. Ho is progressing slowly towards recovery. .....,' A fire broke out on Friday evening about" 8 o'clock in the-six-roomed houso occupied by Mr. W.'.S. Allaway, York Street, and in a short timo the building and contents were .destroyed. Some of the children had gono to bed, when the eldest noticed a smell of burning in the house. On going into tho diningroom she found tho plnce in flames. Tho alarm was at onco given,'and the Tiro Brigade were soon in attendance, but water was not too plentiful, and considerable, damage was done before the flames were mastered. The house is now a more shell. Fortunately the sleeping children were safely removed. There was a small insurance on tho furniture, and the building, which was tho property of Mr. K. D- Worsfold, of Paltncrstpn North, was also partially insured. How tho fire originated is a mystery.
