The Govern- ™ onn ldo 2 ,0al Department this week opened up 200 placed'in cold storage at.thb Auckland Farmers' Freezing Works, between two and three months ago, and the results prove conclusively that apples and pears of approved varieties'may be kept for months without fear of deterioration. Altogether, about 200 varieties of and poars were placed- in cold storage by , the Government pomologist, and with very few exceptions, indeed, the_ fruit has been taken out of the chambor in as perfect a condition as when put in. "Tho fruit has retained its freshness and colour, and shows no evidence of shrivelling or loss in flavour. Tho fruit, which has been in the freezing chamber for three, .months, and was grown on the Government experiment farms,, will, be on 'exhibition at the Auckland winter show, this week, and also at the Dunedin winter show, v . ; -. ■!
