WADESTOWN TRAMS.

FURTHER DELAY. ANOTHEE POLL NECESSARY. 1 . The announcement that tho poll in connection with tho Wadestown tramway is invalid will doubtless cause considerable annoyanco to the residents of that suburb, but such is the fact. Tho causo of this necessity for a second poll is the discovory that tho rating to guarantoo ■ tho interest, on the loans has proved insufficient, and therefore tho City Council's bankers cannot advance the money or float tho loan,' which was authorised at tho recent poll, and the only way out of tho difficulty is to have the poll taken afresh. Accordingly this course is being adopted by tho council. A Dominion, representative mado inquiries yesterday as to what it would cost to remedy tho mattor, and learned that the poll would oost the city Bomothing between £30 and £40. The position regarding tho line is that after a protracted period of agitation, including deputations to the City : Council, meetings at Wadestown in support of the project and polls choosing a route, a special loan was put before the ratepayers on February 11, and carried by 186 votes to 25. Tha amount authorised was £40,100, made up aa follows:— . .. Construction of tramway to Wadestown, and interest and •charges for first year .. 27,500 Resumption of properties, etc., Thorndon, for approach to Wadestown tramway 12,600 A? a result of the poll, the City Engineer was given instructions to take the preliminary steps in connection with the work, and for some time past surveying operations have been in progress. The matter will come up for discussion at the meeting of the City Council to-night, when the course of action to be pursued will be decided.
